Food Safety and the Entrepreneurial Mindset

Join us in hosting Dr. Michele Pfannenstiel, CEO of Dirigo Food Safety, for a full day workshop for beginning farmers. The workshop will be broken into 3 2-hour parts:

 The Language & Landscape of Food Safety: understand the importance of food safety in production as well as the corresponding language and terminology

The Entrepreneurship Mindset: Learn the business mindset for successfully growing and scaling your operation

On-site Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) walk through: Michele will be your guide to help you gain an understanding of what GMPs are by looking at the Stone Barns’ facility.*

*Attendees should wear closed toe shoes or boots that will be appropriate for walking around the Stone Barns Center for Food and Agriculture

Dr Michele Pfannenstiel:

As the CEO of Dirigo Food Safety and with more than 18 years of specialized experience across the spectrum of health sciences, food safety, quality/logistics, audits/compliance, and manufacturing solutions, Dr. Michele Pfannenstiel’s unparalleled breadth of knowledge and depth of available resources helps businesses grow, comply with regulations, and inspire consumer trust. A US Army veteran, Dr. P earned a BA in Economics and Geology from Wellesley College after which she served in the Peace Corps. While in her second year of study at the University Of Georgia College Of Veterinary Medicine, she was chosen for the prestigious Health Professions Scholarship Program through the US Army and commissioned in the US Army Veterinary Corps, where she gained her extensive food safety and regulatory compliance skills. She has extensive experience as a food safety consultant and educator, including teaching workshops at the Stone Barns Center and the Empowering Women Veterans in Business and Agriculture Conference. She and her family live in Southern Maine.
