Folkmoot Summerfest Gala Opening Event

The Folkmoot Gala is the kickoff celebration of the summer festival and is our annual fundraiser supported by the our local community, sponsors, and their guests. The Gala is held indoors in the Friendship Center Hometrust Bank Dining Hall and the Queen Auditorium. Friends will enjoy specialty foods and beverages while cultural performers take the stage for their first appearance at the festival. 

The Gala features up close and personal entertainment from Grammy-Award Winning Conjunto band, Los Texmaniacs; Cherokee Performing Arts Program, Friends of Cherokee; Mars Hill University Dance Ensemble, Bailey Mountain Cloggers, Tap and Lindy with Giselle Anguizola and Nathan Bugh, Contemporary African Dance Group, Suah African Dance, and Cajun swamp rock with The Revelers.

This year Folkmoot is a four-day celebration of American cultural diversity through folk music and dance. Held each summer across the beautiful mountains of Western North Carolina, Folkmoot features special events, performances, and workshops with over 80 dancers and musicians from around the country along with local Cherokee and Appalachian performers.

Performers demonstrate cultural heritage through colorful, authentic, and original reproduction costumes, lively dance, and traditional music. 

Doors open at 5:30 pm with beverages and hors d’oeuvres along with music performed by Grammy Award-winning Los Texmaniacs. The show begins at 7 pm. and is held in the Queen Auditorium.
