Event Description

Join us for an evening conversation with farmers, local wool processors and clothing designers as they guide us through the process of creating a sweater. We’ll take a deep look at sheep farming and shearing at Stone Barns, and talk through wool processing and natural dyeing techniques.

We will explore the ecological influences on our textiles, including sheep varieties, pasture quality, shearing timing, and processing. Speakers will share their perspective on why local and sustainable clothing matters, as well as their top picks for sustainable wool and fiber farms and companies.

This program was created in partnership with:

Amy DuFault, Botanical Colors

Agyesh Madan, Stoffa

Mia Morikawa, 11:11

Mary Jeanne Packer, Battenkill Fibers, Hudson Valley Textile Project
