Biographie du facilitateur
L'artiste et enseignant cri-métis Michael ManyEagles de Deep Creek au Manitoba, crée, partage et expose ses oeuvres en pierre localement et internationalement depuis 1989. En plus d'enseigner et d'animer des ateliers de sculpture sur stéatite et de sensibilisation culturelle à travers le Canada dans des écoles, des instituations publiques et à son atelier collectif d'artistes de Winnipeg "the hyve". En tant que sculpteur traditionnel, il ramasse lui-même la stéatite canadienne dans le nord-ouest de l'Ontario et n'utilise que des outils à main. Sa vision passionnée consiste à écouter la pierre, à respecter son essence et à libérer doucement l'esprit dans la pierre. Invité personnellement par l'ancien premier ministre Jean Chrétien à exposer dans le cadre de la première exposition internationale d'artistes autochtones du Canada intitulée "Spirits in the Sun" à Scottsdale, en Arizona. Ses sculptures ont orné la couverture du Manitoba Arts and Crafts Buyers Guide et il a été interviewé à la télévision, radio et dans de nombreux médias imprimés. Son art est conservé dans des collections du monde entier, telles que l'ambassade du Canada à Pékin, en Chine, ainsi que de nombreuses personnalités bien connues, dont l'acteur Keanu Reeves.

In this workshop, participants will learn how to carve a sculpture made out of soapstone.

Facilitator's Biography
Cree-Métis artist and teacher Michael ManyEagles from Deep Creek Manitoba has been creating, sharing and exhibiting his works in stone locally and internationally since 1989, as well as teaching and conducting soapstone carving and cultural awareness workshops throughout Canada in schools, businesses, various other public institutions and at his Winnipeg artist’s collective studio “the hyve”. As a traditional carver, he collects Canadian soapstone himself from Northwestern Ontario and uses only hand tools. His passionate vision involves listening to the stone, respecting its essence and gently releasing the spirit in the stone. Personally invited by former Prime Minister Jean Chrétien to exhibit in Canada’s first international indigenous artist exhibition “Spirits in the Sun” in Scottsdale, Arizona, his carvings have adorned the cover of the Manitoba Arts and Crafts Buyers Guide and he has been interviewed on television, radio and in numerous print media. His art is held in collections around the globe, such as the Canadian Embassy in Bejiing, China, as well as numerous well-known personalities including actor Keanu Reeves.
