The Mark of Zorro
1920. USA. Directed by Fred Niblo. Screenplay by Eugene Miller, based on the story “The Curse of Capistrano” by Johnston McCulley. With Douglas Fairbanks, Marguerite De La Motte, Noah Beery. When the new governor imposes exorbitant taxes on the already hardworking population, a benevolent hero who marks trees with a “Z” comes to their rescue. The Museum’s materials for this film originate with a generous donation of nitrate prints and negatives from Douglas Fairbanks. Preserved by The Museum of Modern Art with support from the Film Foundation. Silent, with musical accompaniment. Approx. 97 min.
