Event Description

Don Quixote

1933. France. Directed by G. W. Pabst. Screenplay by Paul Morand, Alexandre Arnoux, based on the novel by Miguel de Cervantes. With Fyodor Chaliapine, George Robey, Oscar Asche. Pabst made this English-language Don Quixote simultaneously with his French and German versions, and Chaliapine stars in all three, singing composer Jacques Ibert’s songs in a commanding bass voice. Music aside, the film was a dramatic adaption of the Cervantes novel rather than a rendering of the Massenet opera. 77 min.
