The Technoskeptic Goes to the Movies!

Special Film Screening and Discussion!

(2014) dir Alex Garland w/Domnhall Gleason, Oscar Isaac, Alicia Vikander [108 min; DCP]

Alex Garland’s slow-boil, claustrophobic meditation on AI looks as slick and minimalist as your latest Apple device, only you may not like the app that’s running. A top programmer at the world's largest tech company wins a trip to the founder's bunker to test secret, socially-adept androids – or is it the other way around? Whether or not the results are plausible, the sociopathic arrogance of the founder seems very real. Join The Technoskeptic and the Brattle Theatre for a screening of the film followed by a discussion about the reality of machine learning, robotics, and unintended consequences.

Taking part in the discussion will be computational neuroscientist David Cox, tech critic Sara Watson, and The Technoskeptic's Mo Lotman. Tickets for this special screening are $12 general public; $10 students, seniors, Brattle members. Brattle passes will be accepted.
