Event Description

Three award-winning graphic novelists reveal the medium's power to tell stories of family and loss.

FEATURING:

  • Thi Bui, author of The Best We Could Do

  • Kristen Radtke, author of Imagine Wanting Only This

  • Gabrielle Bell, author of Everything is Flammable

From Wonder Woman to Fun Home, comics have always reflected their creators' lived experience. Now graphic novelists are breathing new life into the medium, sharing personal stories in the form of graphic memoir. These artists weave together emotional themes—love, family, war, loss—with innovative narrative forms.

Authors Thi Bui, Kristen Radtke, and Gabrielle Bell will discuss their recent graphic memoirs in a conversation about visual representation of memory, drawing nonfiction, and more.

Mid-Sentence presents a series of conversations with groundbreaking literary voices. Indie authors and cult favorites explore the intersections between literature and lived experience.
