Downtown Rising is an annual event that celebrates Downtown’s growth and development as the city center continues to rise.
Despite a challenging 18 months Downtown Lafayette continues to grow business and is the heart where the community gathers, belongs, and celebrates. There's no denying we're on the rise, and we want to keep the renewed energy and vibrancy growing with an annual celebration. We call it Downtown Rising.

Downtown Rising is a Social Entertainment event production, presented by the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns and wouldn’t be possible without the partnership of Z105.9, exclusive non-profit partner Downtown Lafayette Unlimited, Festival International de Louisiane, and official food partner Viva La Waffle.

As an outdoor, gated event, Downtown Rising will be at limited capacity and will follow all Covid-19 safety and state restrictions. Downtown Rising asks that any guests stay home if they are not feeling well.

Downtown Rising 2020 featuring Cold War Kids was canceled due to the pandemic. Tickets previously bought for Downtown Rising 2020 will remain valid for Downtown Rising on Thursday, November 11.

This year, Downtown Rising is partnering with Festival International de Louisiane to use the FILO wristband system.
Filo is a payment system used for live events. It allows event organizers to accept cash, credit or debit cards onsite.
It consists of a wristband with a chip that simply stores your balance and purchase information (the same way a gift card does).
When you make purchases at onsite vendors, the chip tells the system how much credit you have, then the system deducts the amount of your purchase. Patrons don't have to use food/beverage tickets but can purchase food, beverages, merch and more with this wristband.

  • This event is an all ages event.

Tank and the Bangas

Since the release of their major-label debut Green Balloon (Verve Forecast, 2019), Grammy-nominated Tank and the Bangas’ star continues to rise. In the past year alone, they gave standout performances at Afropunk and Newport Jazz Festival; national television performances on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, The Today Show, and Austin City Limits; plus looks in Vogue’s September Issue, Essence and more. 2019 came to an exciting close with the announcement of their Grammy nomination for Best New Artist. The band continues to record and new music will be released in 2020.

Big Freedia

Freddie Ross (born on January 28, 1978) is an American musician best known by the stage name Big Freedia and for work in the New Orleans genre of hip hop called bounce music. Freedia has been credited with helping popularize the genre, which was largely underground since developing in the early 1990s. Freedia started singing in the choir of her neighborhood Baptist church, Pressing Onward M.B.C., and started her professional performance career around 1999. In 2003, she released the studio album Queen Diva. She first gained mainstream exposure in 2009, and her 2010 album ''Big Freedia Hitz Vol. 1'' was re-released on Scion A/V in March 2011, as well as a number of music videos.
