About the Film:

Three generations of the boisterous Phadkes live in their ancestral home in downtown Mumbai in this tender first-person exploration of societal expectations. Archana and her sister Sararika are proud about their decision to stay unmarried, but their younger brother, Rohan, is busy planning a wedding with his fiancée, Gurbani. Meanwhile, their parents and grandparents exist in a middle-class complacency, their daily squabbles captured and edited by Archana with intimacy and a great deal of humor. Gradually, over the film’s three-year filming period, the sands shift and the women of the family movingly reveal the compromises that they’ve made. The expression of these previously hidden lives creates unexpected consequences, bringing to the fore the power of keeping inner sanctums and secrets. Archana’s filmmaking is pleasingly lo-fi,  holding vast warmth for her family and her audience without pretension, allowing us to follow the rhythms of daily life. As much a fable about life and death as an inquiry into what sustains us. (AS)
