DIRTBAG: THE LEGEND OF FRED BECKEY

Fred Beckey is the original American “Dirtbag” climber whose name has evoked mystery, adulation and vitriol since the 1940s. Beckey’s stubborn, singular quest to conquer peaks meant a solitary life on the road, where he left a long trail of scorned climbing partners and lost lovers in his wake.

The groundbreaking life story of this rebel athlete, who inspired generations with his monumental first ascents, eloquent books and the lifestyle he fearlessly pioneered, is told for the  first time in this exclusive documentary film. There is only one Fred Beckey. His legacy in the mountains will live on forever.

The Venue and Vibe?

This screening will be held at the Loft on the UC San Diego campus in La Jolla, CA. 

The Loft has excellent projection and sound. Zanzibar in the Loft serves excellent food, wine and beer and will be open before and during the show. This is an all ages show, but there is adult language in the film. Paid parking in parking structures and surface lots. Plan to arrive 30 minutes before the screening to park and walk to the venue.

Doors open open 30 minutes before the show. Print your ticket at home for entry. To enter the venue with a UCSD student ticket, YOU MUST BRING YOUR UCSD STUDENT ID.

* Tickets are non-refundable. Tickets are transferable. Based on availability, tickets can be exchanged for a different Reel Rock screening hosted by UC San Diego.

*Parking in the Gilman Parking Structure, at the corner of Gilman Dr. & Villa La Jolla Dr., is limited. Rate: $2 per hour or $16 per day.

FROM THE NORTH:
Exit Interstate 5 at LA JOLLA VILLAGE DRIVE and turn right into the right hand lane. Turn right at Villa La Jolla Drive to enter the UCSD campus. Proceed straight until you reach the Gilman Parking Structure, at the corner of Villa La Jolla Drive and Gilman Drive.

FROM THE SOUTH:
Exit Interstate 5 at GILMAN DRIVE. Turn left and proceed for about 1.5 miles until you go under the overpass which brings you to the UCSD entrance. Proceed to Gilman Parking Structure, on the left, at the corner of Gilman Drive and La Jolla Drive
