Dave Ruch: Music of the Adirondacks and the Erie Canal

Wednesday, January 18, 2022 7pm $12

Join performer and teaching artist Dave Ruch for a fascinating concert filled with music and stories from New York’s past. One set will feature authentic logging songs, fiddle tunes, ballads and more from the Adirondack Mountain region, and the other celebrates the musical life surrounding the 19th-century heyday of the Erie Canal (along with plenty of Buffalo connections!).

“Mighty…the audience loved it”
— Mick Moloney, National Heritage Award-Winning Musician, Folklorist and Author

Dave is a former Public Scholar and “Speaker in the Humanities” for the New York Council for the Humanities (now Humanities New York). His work in the area of New York’s “heritage” music has been featured in Emmy Award-winning documentaries, on national television and radio (CBS Sunday Morning, PBS, American Public Media) and on stages across the United States, Canada and the UK.

“Dave is phenomenal”
— Sara Ogger, Phd, Executive Director, Humanities New York

He finds his song material in dusty archives, obscure songbooks, diaries, old field recordings, scholarly journals, on visits with living links to the old music and sometimes from his own children, and brings these gems to life with great style on banjo, guitar, mandolin, octave mandolin, bones, spoons, washboard and jaw harp.

“People lined up to comment about what a great musician you are, and how engaging you are”
- Jill Breit, Executive Director, Traditional Arts in Upstate NY, Canton NY
