How To Prepare & Present a Small Claims Case

This program will provide practical information concerning the effective use of small claims court. Attendees will learn about the uses and limitations of small claims court and available resources when preparing to file a claim. The program will provide information helpful in filing the claim, such as: preparing the case, developing a case outline, organizing evidence and demonstrative materials for the court and applying best practices for presenting the case at trial. In addition, the presenter will address important pretrial dispute resolution alternatives.
Presenter: Paul Slavit, Esq. Commissioner Paul Slavit, served as a court commissioner in the San Francisco Superior Court for ten years, and continues to serve on assignment as a retired commissioner in Alameda County. He has more than three years on the bench exclusively as a small claims court commissioner. He will draw on that experience, as well as his 25 years of private law practice, to give a judicial officer’s observations and advice on the most effective methods in small claims cases.
