The three artistic directors of Chatham Baroque have begun their second decade together as a trio. Each season, they celebrate their friendship and years of collaboration with a program showcasing the full range of musical expression and command of their respective instruments.
In this program, they revisit some of their favorite pieces and explore new-to-them works by their favorite composers. These composers include flashy and fantastic Dietrich Buxtehude, suave and elegant Philip Heinrich Erlebach, sultry and intense Jean-Fery Rebel, fun and frolicsome Nicola Matteis; each work a dynamic and stylistically distinct vehicle for exploring their collective sound.
The artistic directors are excited (“jazzed,” even) to announce the return of one of the winning pieces from Chatham Baroque’s composition competition in 2011: GRAMMY-nominated American composer Lansing McLoskey’s suite of seven dances, Haute Dance. This is a contemporary perspective on the dance suite of the Renaissance and Baroque; at turns bombastic, witty, satirical, and deeply poignant.
