Another of Mitchum’s great antagonist roles, here he plays the brutish ex-con Max Cady who holds lawyer Sam Bowden (Peck) personally responsible for a conviction that landed him in jail for 8 years. Released from prison, Cady systematically terrorizes Bowden and his family in a campaign that ends in a deadly confrontation.
