A Retrospective / Mary Ann Mears

Mary Ann Mears is Ladew’s 2017 featured artist, whose sculptures are on display in our wildflower meadow through October 31st. Mary Ann’s career as an artist, who creates site-specific public art, involves her in thinking about ways to integrate art into a space so that it enhances it and expresses ideas unique to that place and to the community around it. She will discuss how she approaches garden sites, whether placing existing pieces or creating new sculpture, and she will share reflections on ways she draws images and inspiration from the natural world. 

Passionate about sharing her joy in creating art, Mears is an advocate for the arts, especially arts education. She will talk about the relationship of being an artist creating public art and an advocate working in communities to bring arts education to all students in Maryland schools.

We will end with a tour of Mary Ann’s sculpture exhibit located in the wildflower meadow (short walk from lecture location). Please dress appropriately for outdoor walking/the weather. Please notify us of any special transportation needs.
