Event Description

A new book pulls back the curtain on the life of a style icon.

Bunny Mellon, the American aristocrat who designed the White House Rose Garden for her friend JFK, served as a living witness to 20th Century American history, operating in the high-level arenas of politics, diplomacy, art and fashion.

Mellon, who died in 2014 at age 103, was famously press-shy during her lifetime. With the cooperation of Bunny Mellon's family, author Meryl Gordon accessed thousands of pages of Mellon's personal archive; she also conducted over one hundred interviews with Mellon's friends and colleagues. The culmination of this research is presented in her book Bunny Mellon: The Life of an American Style Legend.

Gordon will discuss Mellon's life and work with her husband, Walter Shapiro, author of Hustling Hitler: The Jewish Vaudevillian Who Fooled the Führer.
