After a three-year hiatus, The Boston Society of Film Critics will once again present its annual awards ceremony at the Brattle. This year will have a local focus, honoring artistic visionaries and institutions right here in greater Boston. Our feature film presentation will be THE DYING OF THE LIGHT, in honor of award recipient Peter Flynn. Other local recipients include Connie White, director of the Provincetown International Film Festival, the Alloy Orchestra, the Berklee Silent Film Orchestra, the Somerville Theatre for its innovative 70mm and widescreen presentations, and the Boston University Cinémathèque Film Program. Past years of the BSFC awards event have featured exciting guests such as Academy Award nominated actors Frank Langella and Jeremy Renner. This year, the Society is very pleased to welcome special guest Canadian filmmaker Guy Maddin (My Winnipeg, The Saddest Music in the World), whose program “Guy Maddin Presents” was hosted by the Harvard Film Archive in 2016. Maddin, an arthouse luminary familiar to many Boston film fans, will offer a short program of new recent work. The ceremony will include moments of musical entertainment and, as in years past, a charity raffle with unique prizes. The event is preceded by a cocktail reception (Location TBD)
