Event Description

La Crosse’s most beloved scoundrel returns home for a night of brilliant standup comedy! Having spent the entirety of the Walker Administration as a political refugee in the Pacific Northwest, comedian Brett Emerson has used that time in exile to develop a style that merges the surreal and profane, insulting just about everything but the audience’s intelligence.

Staggering out from UW-L with a Philosophy degree, Brett Emerson has spent every day since graduation bathing in the flood of wealth and luxury that naturally comes to all students of the humanities. In the late 2000s, he put his sharp wit and big mouth to good use writing for La Crosse’s Second Supper Newspaper, where he interviewed boy bands, wrote bad goth poetry, and gleefully reviewed terrible movies. This weirdo sensibility would also lead him to become the demented frontman for The Beldings, a local musical calamity that sang punk rock songs about 90s teen sitcom Saved by the Bell. Following his flight west, Emerson spent years studying improv comedy at a theater owned by Whose Line Is It Anyway? star Ryan Stiles, before jumping ship for standup five years ago.

This strange background has resulted in a joyously acid-tongued comedian who wanders over a wide territory, rarely dwelling in one place for long. Sex and history, mythology and puns, depression and Shakespeare, Brett Emerson paints every topic at hand into a chaotic, clever landscape where lunacy and sarcasm form a tag team and win the respect of their estranged dads.

Come see the comedian so talented, he is a five-time winner of the La Crosse Police Department’s prestigious Disorderly Conduct Award! Bring your grandmas!
