Event Description

Breakfast at Tiffany's directed by Ashley Laramore

The story centers on Fred, a Southern-born writer, and his intimate but often complicated relationship with neighbor and charming beauty, Holly Golightly. As Fred is introduced to Holly’s intriguing and luxurious life in New York City’s Upper East Side, he also grapples with his own self-discovery.

“The play is a memory play for our main character Fred,” said Laramore. “We first see him 12 years in the future.  He relives his personal journey of Holly Golightly with us—their friendship, tension between them and how it changes him—during such a poignant time in his life.”

Unlike the classic 1960’s movie, the stage adaptation is set in the 1940s, and Fred and Holly are not romantically entangled. Much like Capote in his own personal life, Fred discovers his own sexuality in this rendition.

“It does stay closer to the novel and deals with personal discovery, the facades we create for ourselves and how we interact with people on a surface level and on a deeper level,” she said. “The play is really a commentary on how people can affect our lives in seemingly small ways but they end up making a big impact. Beyond that, the draw for the audience is a beautiful set and classy costumes that draw you in for a compelling narrative.”
