PRE AND POST REQUIREMENTS FOR BADGES
PRE-req is strongly preferred in most cases, although in some limited cases post-req is permissible
BSA Communications
Communication is a difficult Eagle-Required badge. We generally don’t recommend these classes for newer/younger Scouts. There is a lot of preparation to do. The all-day class sessions will generally provide you with an audience and critiques as described in the merit badge pamphlet. Please don’t show up unprepared. Practice, practice, practice in advance. Merit Badge day is “Show Time”! We believe your learning experience will be enhanced if you read the merit badge pamphlet and attempt to complete at least part of the workbook in advance.
All Requirements for Communication, except #8, are PRE-req only and cannot be done Post-req. Scouts must come to class prepared to present.
R1c prep) Be prepared to describe for 2-3 minutes your “best campout ever” by creating bullet points on a notecard or their electronic equivalent.
R2a) Prepare the “creative way to describe yourself” as described in the requirements. Be prepared to present this to your counselor.
R3 prep) Be prepared to perform a five-minute speech on a topic of your choice. You may speak from notecards or their electronic equivalent.
R4) Interview someone you know, and be prepared to deliver your introduction and invitation of this person. You may speak from notecards or their electronic equivalent.
R5) Surprisingly None: We will “attend a meeting” during class by video. The Scouts will then complete a facilitated template.
R6) Be prepared to teach a skill (of your choice) in 3-4 minutes.
R7a) None: We will learn how to do this in class, and practice it.
R8) Please do all of R8 in advance of class and give the PTM’s lead counselor a letter from your Scoutmaster attesting to your completion. If this is not possible before class, you may “post-req” this section by following up with the counselor (or any counselor of your choice).
R9) Be prepared to share your findings about three careers in Communications.
