William Hurt plays a scientist obsessed with researching alternate states of consciousness who begins to experiment with a dangerous mixture of psychotropic drugs and sensory deprivation therapy in an effort to regress his mind. Unfortunately, his efforts are so successful that he eventually begins to experience physical biological devolution.
