Calling all aspiring veterinarians and junior pet lovers! Earn your junior degree at Brook Farm Veterinary Center’s Summer Day Camp for Kids! Join us and go behind the scenes at one of the Hudson Valley’s foremost animal hospitals to learn about pet safety. Discover the exciting world of veterinary medicine with activities ranging from arts and crafts and scavenger hunts to caring for your own plush “pet” with Dr. Kanouse and his medical team.

Children will learn about pet care and expand their talents in a fun and safe setting led by our highly spirited and interactive staff. Our “students” will learn to overcome the real-life challenges of working on a case while mastering pet safety skills and having fun. Our tentative activity schedule includes:

  • Completing daily rounds each morning and learning how to identify signs of sickness

  • Learning about dog breeds and pet personalities

  • Learning about pet safety, including dog bite prevention, with the K9 Unit of the local police department and other industry professionals

  • Assembling a pet first aid-kit, including what to do in the event of fire

  • Learning about wildlife with representatives from local organizations

  • Arts & crafts (designing your own plush dog, decorating dog cookies, coloring)

Each student will enjoy an authentic veterinary experience in a safe and kid-friendly environment. Activities will be held outside (weather permitting) in a fenced, childproof area and inside in an area separate from where animals are kept. Children will be supervised at all times by at least two Brook Farm team members who are either trained by the American Red Cross or EMT certified. All Brook Farm staff undergo a full criminal background check and drug screening and are carefully referenced checked. (Many staff have children of their own.)

Brook Farm’s Summer Camp is led by some of the best and brightest veterinary professionals in the Hudson Valley. As a practice accredited by the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA), Brook Farm is among the top 12% of practices nationwide and is independently evaluated on over 900 standards of excellence. Family owned and operated since 1982, our practice is a place where advanced veterinary medicine meets old fashioned human touch.
