Backstairs Tour 2025

NEW this year! For those wishing to experience more of the Mansion or for repeat visitors, take advantage of our Backstairs Tour! This specialty tour will not cover the first and second floors of the Mansion. The BackstairsTour is for people who want a behind the scenes look at the servant’s areas of the house and those who want more information about our grounds and gardens. Highlights include climbing to the fifth floor of the tower with panoramic views of the Hudson River and Manhattan. Then, descend the backstairs to view the butler’s suite and the extensive basement kitchen rooms. Exit through the servants’ dining room and visit the c.1911 Laundry Building complete with machinery and original fixtures.  This tour lasts one hour and because of its physical demands, it is not recommended for individuals with limited mobility or children under 12 years of age. This tour requires ascending 79 steps up to the tower and 99 steps down to the basement.

Important Information, Please Read:

Please be advised that this tour requires long periods of standing and flights of stairs. This is not recommended for people with mobility issues.

A limited number of tickets are available for each event, and events do sell out. 

Some tickets may be available for purchase on-site, but these are not guaranteed. 

Please arrive 15 minutes before the entry time on your ticket. If you are late, we will do our best to accommodate you, but we cannot guarantee it.

Check-in at the Welcome Center.

All ticket purchases are non-refundable.

A Grounds Pass is not needed if you already have a Tour or Event Ticket. 

Not recommended for children under 12 years of age.

No large bags, backpacks or strollers allowed in the mansion.
