Artist Reception: Shamsy Roomiani

My ‘BedSpring’ art installation for Sweet Tooth Hotel was inspired by Persian aesthetics and iconography with intricate patterns, a bold color palette, and complimented by lavish florals. Coiled plant stems are grounded to grapevine sconces as hundreds of flower heads spring upwards, intertwining to create a floral sheet bathed in warm golden light. The grapevines coil and crawl up the golden walls, reaching with their shadows, for their floating flower heads. Meditate on the kaleidoscope of florals, as they swing and sway above, to lull you into a state of relaxation. The Venus Bed offers infinite luck when you rest the crown of your head upon a pillow of gold and green, embedded with a mighty queen four-leaf clover. Venus fly traps interlace themselves in a Persian rug bedspread and footboard to provide support for the body. Three infinite guardian serpents extend a protective foundation at the base of the footboard. Gilded in gold, 13 four-leaf clovers are hidden among the weeds in the Sparkling Sprigs floor for those lucky enough to spot them. Sail along the sanctuary to the shadowy blues and purples of the Moon florals rising on the eastern horizon. Ebb and flow in their dark depths and textures until you drift along to the western horizon feeling the energy pull you to the light of the Sunshine florals. Radiate in the Sunshine florals as they adorn and embrace you. LEAF BedSpring with rays of glimmering golden luck.

Shamsy Roomiani is a native Texas visual artist who relishes her time spent outdoors amongst the natural world. She received a Fine Arts degree in Printmaking and a BA in Marketing from The University of North Texas. She works in various art forms such as printmaking, drawing, sculpture, and installation art. In addition to being a maker, Roomiani teaches workshops in DFW and hosts print and paper related events for companies such as the Nasher Sculpture Center, Neiman Marcus, West Elm, and NorthPark Center. She has been featured in The Dallas Morning News, The North Texan, The Star-Telegram, D Magazine, and the Dallas Observer.
