The Architecture of Key West - Garden Lecture Series
Key West is the largest historical district of wooden structures on the US Department of the Interior’s National Register of Historic Places. The charm of Old Town can be attributed to the eclectic mix of over 3,000 wooden buildings constructed throughout the 19-Century; some of which were built in the Bahamas and brought to Key West. The durability of Key West Homes is a testament to the skills of marine carpenters who used rot-resistant Dade County Pine. In her presentation, art historian Snow Philip will discuss the wide variety of styles and influences that led to Key West’s unique architectural fusion.
About the Presenter
Snow studied at Hood College, University of Grenoble, and George Washington University where she earned a BA in History of Art and Architecture and Modern Languages.

Snow studied at Hood College, University of Grenoble, and George Washington University where she earned a BA in History of Art and Architecture and Modern Languages.
She grew up in Guam and has lived in Helsinki, Stockholm, and Madrid where her husband served as a Foreign Service officer. Her travels have allowed her to develop an appreciation and understanding of architecture and she has worked as a tour guide in Washington DC and Key West. Snow lives between Key West and Venice, Italy and currently gives presentations to Road Scholar tours on the subject of Architecture.
Gates will open at 6:00 PM. Admission: $25, OIRF members $15. Water and soft drinks will be available for sale.
