A Dark & Stormy Night with Edgar Allan Poe

Join us for an evening of macabre and mystery with one of the Jacksonian Era’s premiere writers: Edgar Allan Poe! Sit in the ornate 19^th-century parlor of Tulip Grove Mansion and hear Mr. Poe regale his audience with dramatic readings both humorous and terrifying.  Following the program, Mr. Poe will be available to mingle with guests and discuss his life and writings while guests enjoy wine in the front hall.  Featuring renowned New England literary historian Mr. Rob Velella, this is a unique performance not to be missed! 

Tickets are $25 for Hermitage members and $30 for non-members and includes 1 (one) drink ticket for wine or beverage. An unlimited wine bracelet is available for an additional $15. 

This two-night event on October 13th and 14th begins at 7 pm, doors open at 6:30.

Admission for the event does not include general admission to The Hermitage. Tickets are nonrefundable. 

Biography:

Rob Velella is an independent literary historian and playwright specializing in American literature of the 19th century. As a scholar, Velella has published articles and presented academic papers on figures as varied as Margaret Fuller, Oliver Wendell Holmes, and Walt Whitman. Nicknamed the “Prometheus of American literary scholarship,” he has taken his research outside of academia by lecturing at various historical sites, libraries, and colleges from Pennsylvania to Maine. In his ongoing efforts to bring the writers of yesterday back to the readers of today, he has dramatically brought to life several literary figures, including Nathaniel Hawthorne and Edgar Allan Poe. His living history performances have been featured on National Public Radio and the LA Review of Books.
