Event Description
Country: UK
Director: Joseph Losey
London aristocrat Tony (James Fox) thinks he’s found the perfect new butler (Dirk Bogarde). But after the butler’s mini-skirted “sister” (Sarah Miles) suddenly shows up on Tony’s doorstep, the line of demarcation between Upstairs and Downstairs blurs. This new restoration of Losey’s enduring masterpiece marks 50 years since the original release. Considered a ground-breaking Mod psychodrama in its day – with its jazzy music, disorienting camerawork, and constant use of mirrors – it was the first of three collaborations between Losey and playwright Harold Pinter. (1963; 113 min)
Co-presented with Reel Q, Pittsburgh’s LGBT Film Festival.
32nd Three Rivers Film Festival
