ROANOKE RAPIDS - The Country Music Opry Band, which performed at the recent Patsy Cline show at The Roanoke Rapids Theatre will be returning May 5.
Concert promoter Jim Babson, with Hilton Concerts, said the Opry Band drew raves from those who came to the Deb Kiger "A Closer Walk with Patsy," show at the theater, but it didn't stop there.
The following week, Babson said, he was getting phone calls and e-mail messages urging him to bring back the County Music Opry Band.
Babson added the "Louisiana Ice Man," Matt Nelson, who played harmonica, sang and told stories, seemed to have struck a chord with the audience that night.
Joining Nelson and Hall of Famer Marshall Stephenson will be fiddle champion Curtis Lee, Stevee Rose, Jason Jernigan, Carroll Wade, Jessica Gardner, Eric Strickland, and Clyde Mattocks on steel guitar.
The May 5th concert, beginning at 8 p.m., will also feature a special performance by Russ Varnell, fresh off his turn "Larry's Country Diner" television show.
Tickets for the Country Music Opry Full Variety Classic Country Music Show go on sale Thursday, March 22, at 10:00 a.m.
