What is Support Your Scene Fest
For the last several years, I have been wanting to do a festival. I have had all sorts of ideas and lofty ambitions, but one thing remained a constant. I wanted to create a festival where all parts of our community –The Heavy Music Scene- could come together. This year Support Your Scene Fest is the first realization of that vision with all of the “hardcore” bands. We have a huge community 80+ (hardore/ metalcore/ deathcore/ ect.) bands here in Colorado, and many more metal and punk bands. Everyone belongs to their own section of the scene. I want to offer the opportunity for each band and their fans to be exposed to every other band and their fans. Often age, sub-genre, niche venues and shows keep us from knowing everyone in our vibrant community. Support Your Scene Fest will kick a gaping hole in these walls.
There are a lot of Metal and Hardcore festivals that happen every year with all the big names. That is not Support Your Scene Fest. Local music, our community, and giving back is what this is about. We have a lot of talented bands and a lot of people in our community that are worth knowing and knowing what they are doing.
Support Your Scene Fest is not only about ourselves, our music, our community, but it is important that we look beyond ourselves and to the community we live in and ask, “what can we do?.” To that end we have partnered with Helping Hands to give back. This year 50% of all ticket sales will be given to Sox Place and will be dollar for dollar matched by Helping Hands. When I first moved to Denver Sox is where all the hardcore shows were going down this place has not only had a big impact on Denver but also on our community. I am excited to be able to give back to them just as they provided a place for us..
Sox Place:
Sox Place was started in 2002 by father-son team, Doyle and Jordan Robinson. Doyle began his ministry by handing out socks to street youth on the 16th Street Mall in downtown Denver. He was soon given the street name “Sox” and opened up a daytime youth drop-in center shortly after. They have been open for twelve years and continue to grow every year.
