Event Description
SOLD: Fighting the New Global Slave

The Atlantic slave trade was abolished 200 years ago. But there are more slaves today - as many as 23 million - than ever before. Today's slave traders prey on the youngest and most vulnerable. Filmed in India, Togo and Pakistan, this documentary, narrated by Mira Nair, intertwines the stories of three courageous people who defy death threats, carry out daring rescues and challenge powerful interests in the battle to end slavery in the 21st century. A Hindu, a Christian, and a Muslim, this trio has never met, but they fight the same enemy, while employing decidedly different strategies.

Director/Producer/Writer Jody Hassett Sanchez, a Cape Cod native and president of a documentary company in Washington, D.C. that explores issues of faith and culture, will be at the screening to introduce the film and for a Q&A following the screening. Light refreshments served. All tickets $10. (NR, 54 mins.)
