Following a very momentous 2016/2017 tour season, Starr Foster Dance Project will first bound into their 2017/2018 season with a September stop in Baltimore, followed by their Richmond Fall performances October5th, 6th, 7th and 8th at the Grace Street Theater. Foster will be presenting 3 premieres, Sleep of the Guilty, Animal and The Shaking Season along with the much anticipated re-staging of Nineteen43. Performances are at 8pm on Thursday, Friday and Saturday and 2pm on Sunday. Doors open 30 minutes prior to curtain. General admission is $25 and $20 for Students and Seniors and are available through showclix.com and the Grace Street Theater box office.

First performed in 2013, Nineteen43, is a haunting and breathtaking reinterpretation of Foster's grandmothers stories of the holocaust. One of Foster's finest works, and a Richmond favorite, Nineteen43 transports the viewer through a journey of meaningful and historical significance. Set to an original score by Richmond musician and composer Robbie Kinter, this work is about survival and the power of family. Highlighting Foster's unique voice to create unusual and skillful partnering, Sleep of the Guilty is a restless and fiery sextet inspired by dreams that are affected by guilt, stess and anxiety. Tapping into Foster's quirky side, with a dose of dark humor, Animal is a collection of 4 duets with movements inspired by the behaviors, anatomy and mating practices of a particular animal; with each section carrying the title of the particular animal. The Shaking Season, an electrifying, fast paced quintet for all women, symbolizes the act of releasing and shedding undesired burdens. The women of the Dance Project establish their ferocity and strength in their performance in this new quintet. Foster and her company have also collaborated with Richmond film maker Michelle Taft, to create a film version of Foster's work Breaking Silence, which premiered last season, and will have its first public viewing during their Richmond performances.

“The audience was introduced to the choreographer's fondness for building impressive architectural shapes of slow-motion restraint and clever partnering...Foster's strength as a choreographer rose to the surface at rapid speed in Clutch... a dance that confirmed Foster's range and imagination.” Palm Beach Daily News

“Starrene Foster managed to come out on top with two arresting modern ballets Seven Sisters and On the
Wire. She tends to use acoustic discords, which nicely complements the inner and outer conflicts of the dancers. Her dance patterns translate into synesthetic sensory appreciation. The dancers are highly disciplined and radiate joy in their dancing” Washington Post

“Starr Foster's choreography reveals beauty in life's internal conflicts with radiant intricacy and artful
brilliance.” Ali Thibodeau; Times Dispatch

“From Richmond, the Starr Foster Dance Project brings seven powerhouse dancers in four works...”
Washington Post

“I don't know what was more prevalent- Foster's dark humor or emotional gravity. Should her topical subjects be any indication, Foster's submerged understanding of choreography will likely be entertaining audiences for years to come.” Roberto Curtis; Spectrum/Commonwealth Times

“...Once again, Foster has teased and intrigued us with her wit and unique perspective on life.”
Julinda Lewis; Richmond Times Dispatch
