Event Description
Rossini’s Petite Messe Solennelle

Gioachino Rossini called his Petite Messe Solennelle “the last of my sins of old age.” The Mass, completed just five years before his death, was Rossini‘s last major work, written 30 years after his last opera. Like all Rossini‘s music, it is gorgeously lyric, spirited, and irresistibly engaging. “Petite” only in instrumental accompaniment, and not overly solemn, the exquisite writing for four soloists and chorus make it a fitting climax to the life of the “Italian Mozart,” the man then considered the greatest opera composer of all time.
