Former Pittsburgh Penguins' coach Scotty Bowman is among those interviewed in this documentary that chronicles the history of the former Soviet Union’s CSKA Moscow hockey club. Known in the west as the Red Army team, they were a sports powerhouse for many years beginning in the Cold War era. Director Polsky, a son of Russian immigrants and former hockey player, blends insightful interviews and fine archival footage to show how the glory days of Soviet hockey mirrored the country’s social and political climate. Premiered to raves at Cannes earlier this year. Print Courtesy of Sony Pictures Classics.
