Private Dome Car Experience!

In order to celebrate Amtrak’s return to Roanoke. The Virginia Museum of Transportation will be operating a series of fund raising private railcar excursions between Washington, DC and Roanoke. These trips will use a luxurious dome car and feature full meal service, beer and wine. You can even spend some time in the vestibule! We are thrilled to have Amtrak back in Roanoke. All proceeds will go toward supporting 611’s winter maintenance.

Only 24 seats will be sold on this trip! Food, Drinks, and a Seat in the Dome Included.

The Potomac Arrow is part of a series of exciting private railcar trips the Virginia Museum of Transportation Inc. will be operating over the November 10-13th weekend. These trips will operate behind Amtrak’s new service to Roanoke. The 611 will not be pulling these trips, but the proceeds will go towards the 611's
maintenance.

Private railcar trips allow the museum to offer some amenities that aren’t possible during the regular excursions including time in the vestibule, wine, beer as well as more luxurious meal service.

We are selling these trips as one-ways only. This allows guests to choose what type of trip works best for their travel. You may want to ride down to Roanoke Friday evening and return Saturday, Sunday or even Monday. Another delightful option would be to rent a car on your return and drive the Blue Ridge Parkway. There are endless options! In order to book a round trip, you will need to buy two separate one way tickets.

About: Dome Cars

This short dome features 24 Dome Class seats upstairs arranged in four-packs surrounding a table. Short dome cars feature much better forward viewing than Full dome cars. This car is best suited for guests traveling in groups of four or pairs of two. Passengers traveling singly or in odd numbers should expect that they may be sitting with others and making new friends on the train.
