Return of the Periodical Cicadas and Other Garden Pests
with Mike Raupp, entomologist at University of Maryland

As sure as cherry trees bloom each spring, Brood X periodical cicadas will return by the trillions this spring from Georgia to New York with Maryland at the epicenter. Learn about their fascinating strategy for survival, when they will appear, and what mischief they will cause to your landscape trees and shrubs. We will also visit some new invaders including spotted lanternfly and a few perennial trouble makers and learn how to put a beat-down on them in the garden and landscape.

Mike Raupp is Professor Emeritus at the University of Maryland and a Fellow of the Entomological Society of America.  A regular guest on NPR, Raupp has appeared on all major television networks with luminaries including Jay Leno, Hoda Kotb, Chris Cuomo, and Kojo Nnamdi. His “Bug of the Week” website www.bugoftheweek.com and Youtube channel www.youtube.com/user/BugOfTheWeek demystify insect behavior and natural history to tens of thousands of viewers weekly in more than 200 countries around the world.

Lectures will be presented virtually through Zoom. They will be recorded and available for paid registrants.
