Our Opening Night Gala includes a 5:30 pm food, wine, beer and hors d'oeuvres reception, followed by two amazing films, a post-screening Q&A session with filmmaker(s), and a live performance by the three rising opera stars of 'I Live To Sing.'  The entire evening is yours for just $50.

I Live To Sing

It's a celebration of film and music for the special 2014 Opening Night Gala presented by the American Documentary Film Festival and the Palm Springs Cultural Center.  The evening begins with a Camelot Internationale Cafe and Bar-catered food and hors d'oeuvres reception that includes wine and beer from the first commercial brewery and tap room to call the valley home -- the Coachella Valley Brewing Company. The al fresco dining event of food, beer and wine will take place from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Camelot Theatres, with films and welcoming ceremony set to begin at 7 p.m. inside the 539-seat main cinema.  The night's events will be co-hosted by KESQ News Channel 3's Natalie Brunell and CBS Local 2's Patrick Evans.  Following the evening's films, the rising opera singers from the University of Cape Town Opera School in South Africa will take the stage to perform live for the first time in the western United States.

One of the most critically-acclaimed films of the year, this one screens on Opening Night of AmDocs 2014. One of 10 finalists on the Oscar® shortlist for Best Animated Short, it uses mixed media techniques to create bloody battlefields and the horrors of war, with imagery of combat from the bombing of Dresden in World War II to Guernica, from the Spanish Civil War to Star Wars, in a style inspired by expressionism, constructivism, cubism and surrealism. One of five Canadian Screen Awards nominees, this film has already been named Best Animated Short of 2013 by the International Federation of Film Critics, and is one of five finalists for a 2014 Annie Award, recognizing the best animated films of the year.
