Event Description

Paranku Workshops at the Okinawan Festival by Okinawa Eizo Center Co. and Naha Daiko

NOTE THIS IS ONLY TO REGISTER FOR THE PARANKU WORKSHOP WHICH WILL TAKE PLACE AT THE OKINAWAN FESTIVAL INSIDE THE HAWAII CONVENTION CENTER EXHIBIT HALL. All registered Paranku Workshop participants will need a separate paid admission ticket to enter the Okinawan Festival for the same date as their workshop time slot. To purchase admission tickets to the Okinawan Festival, visit www.okinawanfestival.com for details.

By registering for the Paranku Workshop you agree to the following:

  • Check in at the Paranku Workshop Booth (inside Exhibit Hall I, see map below) at least 10 minutes prior to the start of your session.

  • Have your QR code ready for scanning (either on your phone/mobile device or printed copy).

  • There is a 10-minute grace period once the session starts; late arrivals will forfeit their spot to waitlisted individuals and no replacement time slot will be provided.

Rina Tamaki and Yu Tamaki of Okinawa Eizo Center Co. will host a hands-on Paranku workshop at the Okinawan Festival. Participants will learn how to make a craft Paranku (hand drum) and have an opportunity to learn Eisa (a type of Okinawan dance using drums) from Sho Yoshida and Ryu Yoshida of Naha Daiko.

The Paranku workshops will be held on both days of the Okinawa Festival. Participants will make a craft paranku and learn Eisa. Each workshop will take approximately 50 minutes and is limited to 12 people per session.

To participate, you will need to register online in advance for the workshop. The workshop will be free because of a generous cultural grant from the Okinawa Prefectural Government. Due to the very limited number of seats for each workshop, only 1 registration will be allowed per person, per time slot. Thank you for your understanding.

Thank you to Okinwa Eizo Center Co., Naha Daiko and the Okinawa Prefectural Government for their support of HUOA.
