Claudio Monteverdi's Madrigals of War and Love

TENET is proud to present selections from Claudio Monteverdi’s seminal collection of secular works titled “Madrigals of War and Love” (Madrigali dei guerrieri et amorosi).  Published in 1638, this book represents 30 years of compositions that feature Monteverdi’s new stile concitato (“agitated style), which is on full display as he intimately connects the poetry of Petrarch, Tasso, Guarini, Rinuccini and others to the music through dramatic musical interpretations. We have gathered a star-filled international cast that includes cornettist Doron David Sherwin, baroque harpist Maria Christina Cleary, and violinist Robert Mealy.
