Event Description
Marie's Story

At the turn of the 19th century, Marie is born deaf, blind and unable to communicate. Desperate to find a connection to their daughter and avoid sending her to an asylum, her parents send 14-year-old Marie to the Larnay Institute in central France, where an order of Catholic nuns manage a school for deaf girls. There, the idealistic Sister Marguerite sees in Marie (just as Annie Sullivan did in Helen Keller) a unique potential, and despite her Mother Superior's skepticism, vows to bring this “wild child” out of the darkness. Based on true events, this extraordinary drama about courage and compassion may be the sleeper hit of the fest.
