Lehigh Gorge Special

Historic steam locomotive no. 765 will operate a round-trip excursion each day between Allentown and Pittston, Pennsylvania.

This trip is a scenic feast! We will leave from Bethlehem, Pennsylvania on the Norfolk Southern Lehigh Line. We will head north on NS rails along the Lehigh River to M&H Junction, where we will move on to the rails of the Reading, Blue Mountain and Northern Railroad. We'll continue along the Lehigh Gorge river for a few more miles, but eventually we begin the climb up out of the Lehigh Gorge and up to Mountain Top before going back downgrade into Pittston, PA.

We will turn on the wye in Pittson, get lunches on board there and serve lunch on board the train as we head back. We will stop in Jim Thorpe, PA for about 2 hours on the return. Jim Thorpe is rated as one of the top ten small town destinations in the country by several travel services.

It has been over 40 years ago since you could ride a regular passenger train south of Jim Thorpe and there is no way to predict when this could happen again, if ever. These trips will see the 765 travel over the former Jersey Central and Lehigh Valley Railroads for the first time in history.

Passengers will be bused the boarding site, which is not accessible to the general public.

Important Ticketing Information:
- Children ages (4-15) and adult tickets available (children 3-and-under who do not occupy a seat are free). 
- Members eligible for 10% discount on standard coach only; limit two per member. *Discount code must be entered at the time of purchase. 
- Families and groups traveling together should purchase their ticket at the same time, under the same name.
- Tickets are assigned by car; seats are not assigned unless otherwise noted

- Standard coach, deluxe coach, first class, and dome car accommodations available on passenger cars from the 1940s and 50s.
- Snacks and refreshments available for purchase on board; included in all first class and dome car tickets.
