Junior Mendelssohn Choir: Pergolesi's Magnificat

The Junior Mendelssohn Choir of Pittsburgh, the region's premier young adult chorus, will perform Giovanni Pergolesi's Magnificat, amid the glorious French Gothic architecture of Third Presbyterian Church. Come hear tomorrow's vocal stars today under the direction of Junior Mendelssohn Director Stephen Neely.

Best known for his Stabat Mater, Pergolesi probably composed the Magnificat during his time at the conservatoire in Naples, where he was enrolled from 1720-1731.  The Magnificat blends the traditional polyphant of the Baroque period with the newer Neapolitan “style gallant,” which one days would be called “Mozartean.”  The concert also includes the world premiere of composer (and Mendelssohn Choir alumna) Katherine Pukinskis's Requiem Fragments, dedicated to the singers of the Junior Mendelssohn Choir.

For more than a quarter of a century, the Junior Mendelssohn has helped to foster the next generation of great vocal talent by providing regional youth with a challenging, fast-paced vocal training program that helps prepare young people for the lifelong pursuit and love of music.

Please Note: Online ticket sales will close Sunday, November 8 at 12am. Tickets may be purchased at the door for Adult General Admission ($12.00), Student ($5), and Youth 12 and younger are free.

About Our Venue: Third Presbyterian Church is located on the corners of Fifth and South Negley Avenues in Shadyside. There is street parking on the side streets off Fifth Avenue and multiple parking lots and a parking garage on Walnut Street. Third Presbyterian has a small parking lot adjacent to the Church on Fifth Avenue that has handicapped parking spaces. You may also pull into the lot to drop off patrons.
