Event Description

The IMMA Summer Party is back. Closing the SUMMER RISING Festival, visitors are encouraged to explore the IMMA galleries, formal gardens, historic Great Hall and Baroque Chapel each activated by music, food, and art.

Tickets are 15.00 euro but can be purchased as a package with The IMMA Banquet here for 5.00 euro off!

Artist Hélio Oiticica proposed, in his work, ways "of giving the individual the possibility to ‘experiment,’ to no longer be the spectator and become the participant," and it is in this spirit that IMMA invites you to be part of the SUMMER RISING Summer Party – to taste, to listen, to look, to enjoy and most of all to take part.

Gracelands at IMMA
The gardens will come alive with a specially commissioned edition of Gracelands The Dark Thoughts that Surround Neon transforming IMMA's formal gardens into a temporary outdoor gallery and cinema.

The show presents a number of filmworks including Tree Dance by Gordon Matta Clarke and the The Fox Chase by Seamus Harahan with live sculptural interventions or accompaniments including live music, lightworks and performance.

The show looks at how near darkness or artificial light, either from a flickering screen, from signage or from street-lighting affects how we behave, giving license to thoughts or behaviours that might not be permitted or indulged in daylight. What is the night-life of the museum grounds? Is it all about pleasure?

Presenting performance film and sculptural work by Lucy Andrews, Ivan Cardoso/Hélio Oiticica,Seamus Harahan (with Eoin Dillon), Gordon Matta Clarke, Bea McMahon, Seamus Nolan, Sarah Pierce, Elisa Pone, Mathew Sawyer and Walker and Walker and more.

The Baroque Chapel will be lifted with the Irish debut performance from GANG COLOURS (UK) as well as Galway’s own SOMERVILLE, one of the most exciting new artists to emerge from the west coast.

The Green Room will host House, Soul, Disco and Hip-Hop sets from DJs David Kitt, 11:11 and Emmet Condon, all rounded off with a closing Chapel set from the legendary Donal Dineen designed to get your dancing feet moving, all night long.

At the SUMMER PARTY you definitely won’t go hungry or thirsty.  Specially curated food and cocktails are available by House in Cork Opera House and Luncheonette. And just added to the Food Line-up, Killer Sandwich!  Put your orders in with them on Twitter at @akillersandwich because they are preparing a SUMMER RISING special: The King Kamehameha Club with Cherrywood smoked pork, coca-cola ham, pineapple salsa and an Arun Bakery bun. Yum!

UBER have also kindly given Summer Party visitors a free first trip with UBER worth up to €25. Purchase your Summer Party Ticket, and we’ll send you your UBER code valid through September.
