JESUS HOPPED THE A TRAIN
By Stephen Adly Guirgis
About the Play:
The young and impressionable Angel Cruz is in jail pending his trial for the shooting of Reverend Kim; a kind of cult leader who has brain washed his best friend. During his routine exercise he meets Lucius Jenkins, a.k.a. "the Black Plague," who works out furiously in the cage next to Angel. Lucius is a fellow inmate whose pride and religious zeal defies the bars that hold him prisoner. A masterful debate about anger, innocence, lying, and ultimately being "right" in Gods eyes ensues. Will you lie for what you believe in, or will you step up and pay a bigger price for that belief? Jesus Hopped the 'A' Train is an emotionally devastating search for morality and grace within the cynicism and harsh reality of the American prison system.
Directed by Derrick Sanders

OBIE Winner Edwin Lee Gibson, LABrynth Theater member Raúl Castillo, Elena Passarello, Patrick Jordan, and Leandro Cano
The New York Times calls Jesus Hopped the A Train
"…fire-breathing…[a] probing, intense portrait of lives behind bars…whenever it appears that JESUS is settling into familiar territory, it slides right beneath expectations into another, fresher direction. It has the courage of its intellectual restlessness…[JESUS HOPPED THE A TRAIN] has been written in flame."
