St George Spirits and Lucid Presents-"Death in the Afternoon" a History and Tasting of AbSINthe

Learn the history of Absinthe and taste different varieties of the famed and mystical Green Liquid. Absinthe has been the subject of controversy since the 18th Century. It's also the star of famous author and infamous drinker Ernest Hemingway's most dangerous drink-Death in the Afternoon. Watch Master Mixologist, Cabe Coskey demonstrate how to make delicious absinthe drinks and try them all if your feeling dangerous.

“One cup of it took the place of the evening papers, of all the old evenings in cafés, of all chestnut trees that would be in bloom now in this month.... of all the things he had enjoyed and forgotten and that came back to him when he tasted that opaque, bitter, tongue-numbing, brain-warming, stomach-warming, idea-changing liquid alchemy."

Ernest Hemingway claimed to have invented the Death in the Afternoon, a risky pairing of absinthe and Champagne, himself. His exact instructions suggested adding iced Champagne to a jigger of absinthe until it attained “the proper opalescent milkiness,” then proceeding to drink three to five of the cocktails in one sitting.

Real absinthe. No artificial ingredients, no gimmicks.

The first legal American absinthe released after the U.S. ban was lifted in 2007, St. George Absinthe Verte remains one of the most acclaimed and respected spirits in this category.

Made from a host of real botanical ingredients, ours is a layered and evocative expression of this beguiling and highly spirituous herbal elixir.
