“It's like coming out all over again... ”
Meet Hector. Hector used to go out with Alan who is now going out with Eddie who just met Gucci, the house boy, and Pippin, the Drama Queen. And yes, Hector’s the one in the bad drag…
In the course of one evening, Hector, Alan, Eddie, Gucci, and Pippin reveal how well—or not—they are coming to terms with living with HIV today. Yet, no matter their personal differences, their past (or present!) relationships, their hopes or fears, these boys in the 'club' know that they will always find comfort in each other.
Irish playwright Paul Emelion Daly’s new play BOYS IN THE CLUB receives its US premiere on September 16, dealing with the thorny issue of HIV equality. What does it mean to live HIV-positive in 2015? There is Prep now and better drugs removing the seeming inevitability of a quick death sentence that HIV and AIDS once brought with them, as characterized in The Normal Heartand Longtime Companion. But the stigma of having HIV can still be like coming out all over again. Have we become complacent?
Gay Times UK called the world premiere of BOYS IN THE CLUB “An engaging and timely piece of work that’s talking about something important”. Regeneration Theatre is proud to bring this important piece to New York City where the stories of the “gay plague” began what seems like a lifetime ago.
