This poetic documentary tells the largely unknown story of Rabbi Regina Jonas (1902-1944), the world’s first woman rabbi. After growing up in the Scheunenviertel, a poor, mostly Jewish, neighborhood in Berlin, Jonas was ordained at the College for the Scientific Study of Judaism in 1935. Between 1942 and 1944, she performed rabbinic functions in the ghetto of Thereisenstadt, and was murdered in Auschwitz in 1944.
