Event Description
Country: Congo/Belgium
Director: Jean Michel Kibushi
Jean Michel Kibushi’s magical – and family-friendly – films are rarely screened in the United States. Each film is a mini-world unto itself, sprung forth from his brilliant imagination to celebrate Congo’s rich culture and offer sociopolitical critique. Using drawings, cutouts, models, and claymation, he summons a collective vision of Congo, past and present, drawing on traditional Congolese folktales. Twenty-five years ago, Kibushi founded the Malembe Maa Studio to teach African culture through animated films and craft toys. (with English subtitles; 70 min)
Co-presented by The Congolese Union of Pittsburgh & Friends of the Congo.
