Mr. Sällström returns to the Chicago area after having performed to an enthusiastic audience in August in Elmurst. Now he is to perform at Wentz Concert Hall in Naperville on Monday, October 26th at 7:30 pm.

Music lovers will be drawn in as they listen to 20-Century Geirr Tveitt' Hardanger Fiddle Concerto No. 2: Tri Fjordar (Three Fjords). Largely unknown, listeners will, no doubt, give this dramatic piece the attention it deserves.

Geirr Tveitt launched out from the traditional use of Norway's Hardanger fiddle in the 1960's when he composed two works for Hardanger fiddle with orchestra. Both of these technically difficult pieces are rarely played. Skogen Sällström is one of the very few violinists who perform this technical twist on the Hardanger fiddle. Listeners will hear his masterful articulation as he performs the dramatic, Hardanger Fiddle Concerto No. 2: Tri Fjodar (Three Fjords).

The orchestra part has been recently arranged for piano and percussion to take on tours by Knut Erik Jensen, Norwegian composer, pianist and accordionist. This Chicago audience will be the first to experience this amazing arrangement outside of Norway. (And possibly the original orchestra version has never been performed in North America.)

This concert is a continuation of Part I of "There and Back Again: A Fiddler's Journey" which consisted of Norwwegian traditional and contemporary folk peices performed last summer. In addition to the folk genres, Part II will highlight dramatic selections from the Norwegian 'classical' genres (19th and 20th century). Listeners will detect and appreciate the same motifs that have inspired these compositions as notes and chords spring forth from Sällström's artistry in works by Ole Bull and Geirr Tveitt.

Skogen Sällström will also present popular works by contemporary Sturla Eide, one of Norway's leading folk music fiddlers by whom Sällström received his training in violin folk music during his master degree studies.

"Bergrosa" (Mountain Rose) is another audience favorite composed by Sven Nyhus. Audiences can expect that this be "played with lilting nuances," according to the Norwegian American Weekly article "Young fiddler thrills Chicago-area audience."

Traditional styles include the Halling, unique to Norwegian music. No doubt, Sällström will again immerse himself into his music as he plays his original halling as well.

His playing shows "how he is totally steeped in Norwegian folk music and its interpretation. Whatever Sällström plays, he conveys deep feelings through his masterful technique and his complete involvement in the music," states Nancy Andersen with the Norwegian American Weekly. She adds, “Skogen Sällström is a talent not to be missed."

Sällström recently completed his self-designed Master's degree in Norwegian Music, spanning traditional, classical, and contemporary genres, at the Music Institute of Norwegian University of Science and Technology in Trondheim, Norway.

Mr. Sällström will be joined by Viktor Moreno, piano, and Tessa Highmark, percussion. Mr. Moreno has spent many years in Scandinavia, especially in Sweden, where he became acquainted with Scandinavian music. As a solo accompanist, Mr. Moreno has embraced this opportunity to work with this passionate musician. Ms. Highmark, a recent music degree graduate with a percussion major, has enjoyed embarking on this new genre to become a synchronizing part of this dynamic ensemble. The three are delighted to share the stage together in this unique Norwegian musical experience.
