In the lab, chemicals are put under pressure and react by heating up, turning colors, exploding, or joining together. It turns out that the people behind the research can react the same way.
This October, five Carnegie Mellon students will share the true, personal stories behind their research. Adam struggles to save his sea urchins from the polar vortex. Casey's in the middle of the ocean when the ship's internet breaks, and Matineh reacts to a change in culture when her research moves her from Iran to Pittsburgh. The result is a funny and touching show on Monday night, October 6th, 8pm at the Rex Theatre in Pittsburgh's South side.
Note: Though this event is open to all ages, some of the stories may contain explicit content.
The show is produced by the Story Collider, an international storytelling project in which people from all walks of life share their true, personal stories of how science has affected their lives. The Story Collider has worked with MacArthur fellows, New York Times bestselling authors, an America's Next Top Model contestant, a writer for the Daily Show, and Pulitzer Prize-winning journalists in major cities around the world. Story Collider visited Pittsburgh for the first time last October, and the experience was such a blast they decided to do it again. You can check out last year's stories about losing a $330 million spacecraft and overcoming self-doubt over a Pittsburgh accent on the Story Collider website.
"The Story Collider: Reactions" is brought to you by Public Communication for Researchers (PCR), a CMU student group training graduate students to talk about their work outside the ivory tower.
